Paragraph Writing: Shortcut Method for SSC & HSC Exams

Learn paragraph writing for SSC and HSC with a shortcut method. Ready-made formats for both negative and positive topics, topic lists, filled examples, and rules. With Bengali guidance.

Here is the problem every student fears: you open the exam paper, reach the paragraph question, and the topic is one you never practised. What now? This lesson is the answer. Instead of memorising fifty paragraphs, you learn just two flexible frames, one for negative topics and one for positive topics, and then drop the topic into the frame. Master these two, and no paragraph question can catch you off guard.

This is the shortcut method of paragraph writing for J.S.C, S.S.C, and H.S.C. It pairs with our other board-exam shortcuts for Application Writing, Letter Writing, and Dialogue Writing. So let us start.

How the Shortcut Method Works

Most exam paragraphs follow the same shape: a topic sentence that introduces the subject, a body that gives causes, effects, and details, and a concluding sentence. So you memorise that shape once as a ready frame, and for each new topic you only swap in the topic name and add a few topic-specific sentences.

An honest note. This is a safety method, meant for passing or for handling a topic you did not prepare. If you want top marks, still learn the important paragraphs properly and add your own strong sentences to this frame.

The Parts of a Paragraph

Know the three parts every good paragraph has

  • Topic sentence (প্রথম বাক্য): introduces the subject.
  • Body (মূল অংশ): gives the causes, effects, and details.
  • Concluding sentence (শেষ বাক্য): closes with a solution or a final thought.

Remember two rules of shape: leave a space (an indent) at the start, and keep everything in one single paragraph, never break it into two.

Water Pollution

Water pollution has become a burning question in Bangladesh today. It is harming us in many ways, and if it is not checked soon, it will damage both our personal life and our society. There are several causes behind it. Firstly, many people are not aware of the dangers of water pollution, and out of ignorance they make the situation worse. Secondly, proper steps to control water pollution are often missing, so the problem keeps growing. Water is polluted when we throw waste and rubbish into rivers, build unsanitary latrines on the banks, and let factory chemicals and farm insecticides flow into it. As a result, we suffer from many diseases such as diarrhoea, cholera, and typhoid. However, the problem of water pollution is not beyond solution. If we all become aware and act together, it can be controlled. The government should take strict steps, and every citizen should help. In this way, we can build a Bangladesh free from water pollution. There are several reasons why tree plantation is so important. Firstly, it helps us in our daily life and makes us better and more useful people. The Rules You Must Follow

These rules apply to both frames.

Rule 1: In place of the bold [name of the problem/topic], write the real topic name every time, in the title and throughout the paragraph.

১. bold করা [name of the problem/topic] এর জায়গায় প্রতিবার আসল বিষয়ের নাম লেখো, শিরোনামে এবং পুরো paragraph জুড়ে।

Rule 2: Always add two or three topic-related sentences in the middle. This is where full marks are won.

Rule 3: Leave a space (indent) at the start, and keep the whole answer in one single paragraph.

Rule 4: If the question gives no title, make a suitable title yourself from the guiding questions.

A Tip for the Exam

First, decide one thing: is the topic negative (a problem) or positive (a good thing)? That single choice tells you which frame to use. Then put your real effort into the two or three middle sentences, because the frame secures your pass marks and the topic sentences earn the rest. Keep those sentences simple and correct. A short, correct paragraph always beats a long one full of mistakes.
