How to Introduce Yourself and Others- English Spoken Series

How to introduce yourself and others is the 1st lesson of English Spoken Series where you will learn some essential phrases which should be used in different situations both in formal and informal expressions. Here, I am going to discuss over a few basic expressions based on the introduction process and the recommended phrases for such conversations.

“কিভাবে নিজেকে পরিচিত করতে হয়?” হল আমাদের English Spoken Lessons এর উপর ১ম অধ্যায় যেখানে তুমি শিখতে পারবে কিছু প্রয়োজনীয় শব্দাংশ (Phrases) যা formal এবং informal উভয় অভিব্যক্তি দিয়ে প্রকাশ করা যায়। এখানে, আমি আলোচনা করতে যাচ্ছি পরিচিত পর্বের  কিছু ধরন এবং সেক্ষেত্রে ব্যবহার করা যায় এমন কিছু শব্দাংশের (Phrases) উপর।

After reading this lesson, you will learn the Phrases on Saying Hello, Introducing Yourself Formally, Introducing Yourself Less Formally, Replying to a Formal and an Informal Introduction, Introducing Yourself before a Speech, and introducing People to the Public.

সফল্ভাবে এই অধ্যায়টি পড়ার পরে তুমি শিখতে পারবে নির্দিষ্ট কিছু শব্দাংশ বা (Phrases) কাওকে সম্ভাষণ জানানো, নিজেকে এবং উপায়ে নিজেকে পরিচিত করানো,অন্য কারো পরিচয় পর্বে উত্তর প্রদান,বা অন্য কাওকে অন্য কারো সাথে পরিচয় করে দেওয়া।

In our daily life, for communicating with others, it is essential to know both the formal and informal expressions in spoken language in order to introduce ourselves or others or to start a conversation with the strangers.

অন্যান্য মানুষদের সাথে আচার আচরণে এবং যে কোন তথ্য সংগ্রহের কাজে আমাদের কথ্য ইংরেজির কিছু ভাষা জানা উচিৎ যা আমরা কারো সাথে পরিচিত হওয়ার সময় ব্যবহার করতে পারব formal এবং informal উপায়ে।

Now, look at the topic ‘How to Introduce’ through which we will learn some common phrases of spoken English. All of them indicate the situation when you are going to introduce yourself or others or replying to others questions during similar types of introduction.

এখন এই অধ্যায়টির শিরনামটি লক্ষ্য করো যার মধ্যে দিয়ে আমরা কিছু শব্দাংশ (Phrases) শিখব। এটি এমন একটা পরিবেশকে বোঝায় যেখানে তুমি কারো সাথে পরিচিত হবে বা অন্য কাওকে পরিচয় করিয়ে দেবে। সুতুরাং, পড়ে নাও Lesson টি এবং অনুশীলন শুরু করে দাও নিয়মিত। মনে রাখবে Spoken English শেখার মূলমন্ত্র ‘বলতে শেখা’। ভুল হবে ভেবে যদি ভয় করো তবে জেনে রাখো ব্যর্থতা হল সফলতার দিকে প্রথম ধাপ!

Expression 01: How to Say Hello
(কিভাবে কাওকে সম্ভাষণ জানাতে হয়?)

Here, you need to deliver your first expression when you meet someone or start talking.
(তুমি এই Phrases গুলো ব্যবহার করবে যখন তুমি প্রথম কারো সাথে কথা বলছ বা পরিচিত হচ্ছ)

Good morning

Expression 02: How to Introduce Yourself Formally
(কিভাবে নিজেকে প্রাতিষ্ঠানিক ভাবে পরিচিত করতে হয়?)

Here, it is the situation when you need to introduce yourself to others in a formal way. These expressions are used in offices, institutions, and organizations.
(তুমি এই Phrases গুলো ব্যবহার করবে যখন তুমি নিজেকে অন্য কারো সাথে উপায়ে পরিচয় করিয়ে দিচ্ছ। এই শব্দাংশগুলো বিভিন্ন প্রতিষ্ঠান,স্কুল বা অফিসে ব্যবহার করা হয়।)

Expression 03: How to Introduce Yourself Less Formally
(কিভাবে নিজেকে অপ্রাতিষ্ঠানিক ভাবে পরিচিত করতে হয়?)

It is a friendly situation where you are going to introduce yourself to other friends and these expressions are informal.

Expression 04: How to Reply to a Formal Introduction
(কিভাবে প্রাতিষ্ঠানিক ভাবে পরিচিত পর্বের উত্তর করতে হয়?)

Now, it is the time when you need to reply to others when they are introducing themselves and your speeches must be formal.
(তুমি এই Phrases গুলো ব্যবহার করবে যখন কেও তোমার সাথে পরিচিত হতে চাচ্ছে এবং তুমি তার কথার উত্তর দিতে চাও প্রাতিষ্ঠানিক ভাবে)

Expression 05: How to Reply to an Informal Introduction

Again, it is the time when you need to reply to others when they are introducing themselves but this is informal situation with friends.
(তুমি এই Phrases গুলো ব্যবহার করবে যখন কেও তোমার সাথে পরিচিত হতে চাচ্ছে এবং তুমি তার কথার উত্তর দিতে চাও বন্ধুত্বপূর্ণ ভাবে)

Expression 06: How to Introduce Yourself before a Speech
(কিভাবে কোন আলোচনার মধ্যে নিজেকে পরিচিত করানো যায়?)

Suppose, you are going to deliver an official speech before an audience and you need to introduce yourself using these expressions.
(তুমি এই Phrases গুলো ব্যবহার করবে যখন তুমি প্রাতিষ্ঠানিক ভাবে একটি সভার সামনে নিজেকে পরিচয় করাতে চাও)
Spoken Phrase:
I am …(full name)
I’d like to introduce myself
Let me introduce myself

I’m called …(full name).

Expression 07: How to Introduce People to the Public
(কিভাবে অন্য কাওকে অন্যদের কাছে পরিচিত করাতে হয়?)

Now, not for yourself but you need to introduce someone else to other people and in that case you are talking on behalf the person.
(তুমি এই Phrases গুলো ব্যবহার করবে যখন তুমি অন্য কাওকে অন্যদের সাথে পরিচয় করিয়ে দিতে চাও)
Spoken Phrase:

May I introduce…(full name)?
Let me introduce…(full name).
I’d like you to meet
Have you already met …(full name)?

Examples in sentences:

• This is Sarowar Parvej.
• May I introduce Sarowar Parvej? Sarowar’s our director.
• Let me introduce Sarowar Parvej. He will be joining our training team.
• I’d like you to meet Dr Rubina. She’s the Head Surgeon at Rajshahi Medical Hospital.
• Have you already met Dr Rubina? She runs this lab.

Physical Appearance or Requirement while speaking: You need to concentrate on your body language too. There are 4 points to be noted while speaking.

• Straight Posture
• Eye Contact
• Firm Handshake
• Smile

কথা বলার সময় তোমাকে তোমার শারীরিক আচরণ এর উপর খেয়াল করতে হবে যেগুলো মূলত ৪ ভাগে ভাগ করা যায়ঃ

– সোজাসুজি দাড়িয়ে বা বসে থাকতে হবে। কোন দিকে হেলে থাকা চলবেনা।
– তোমার চোখের দৃষ্টি শ্রোতার দৃষ্টি বরাবর থাকতে হবে।
– হাতে হাত মেলাতে হবে পরিচিত হবার সময়।
– কথা বলার সময় মুখে হাসি রাখতে হবে আত্মবিশ্বাস এর সাথে।

এখন চেষ্টা করো উপরে উল্লেখিত শব্দাংশ বা (Phrases) গুলো তোমার বাস্তব জীবনের কথোপকথনে ব্যবহার করার। ধীরে ধীরে তুমি একজন ভালো শ্রোতা এবং বক্তা হয়ে উঠবে। শুধুমাত্র এই (Phrases) গুলো মুখুস্ত করে তুমি Spoken English এর ক্ষেত্রে সফল হতে পারবেনা যদি না তুমি এগুলো নিয়মিত চর্চা করো। আমি আশা করছি যে “কিভাবে নিজেকে পরিচিত করতে হয়?” এই অধ্যায়টি তোমার জন্য অনেক উপকারী হবে যদি তুমি ইংরেজিতে কথা বলা শিখতে চাও। আর যদি কিছু জানার থাকে এই বিষয়ে তবে অবশ্যয় মন্তব্য শাখায় জানাবে।

Now, try to use these expressions and phrases in your real life communication with your friends, classmates, relatives or group mates. With time, you will be a good listener and at the same time an active speaker. Only memorizing these phrases cannot be fruitful if you do not apply these in your practical life.
